I wanted to see how well I could recreate the hit game portal and see how I could change the genre from a fast passed action puzzle game to also include genre tropes of first person shooter games, I did this by adding extra acrobatic features such as dashing and double jumping, so I could include essence of a platformer. I drew some extra inspiration from the hit indie game Ultra Kill with the ability to slide and slam into the ground and when jumping the moment you hit the ground after a slam you could jump higher then when you landed and so I also added these features as for within a level you would want to be able to slide through an entire level then jump slam to the top of the map you can which is why I love having a lot of creative freedom because I always believe a players creativity with what has been developed should be rewarded as from my experience this is what keeps players to your game to see everything that there is to be offered.
I also added two different types of grabs, a long range and a short range. The long range grab will hold a object for a second the flings it towards the player so that they can catch it with the short range grab which will hold the object until they let go, the point of being able to pick up objects is to solve puzzles, as the opening puzzle is to grab a cube and drop it onto a button which will activate a portal and escape the room.
