This college project was to present all of the skills I developed within the two years I was there.
The game I developed was a first person puzzle action game which you travel through time to solve puzzles.
This is a fast-paced puzzle game where the player will have to go through a levels where they travel between two different timelines, where the maps are the same but the enemies are different and the scenery is different. You travel through time to solve puzzles by using items of the past to solve future puzzles or objects from the future to solve problems from the past with a story hidden through out the world for you to discover.
An advanced movement/ traversal systems:
walking, running double jumping dashing
grappling rope to traverse large sections
Time swapping - this is the player switching between two different time lines within the same world
Time rewind - the player can go back in time watching the actions they have taken
Time slow down - this is to help the player during tricky platforming or combat
Attacking and parrying
picking up and dropping objects
When the player would die they would rewind to either the begging of the level having to see enemies respawn and also their progress be unmade or to the last checkpoint
Enemy Mechanics:
Ranged enemies could shoot the player and the different time zoned enemies would have different types of attacks where:
The future enemies would shoot quicker and have longer bullets like lasers but would have a reload time
The past enemies would have longer gaps between shots like drawing a bow but wouldn't need a reload time
Through out the levels there shooting consistently would increase however or magazine size to make it more challenging
The melee enemies would walk towards the player and try and poke them with a spear to make kill the player and this causes them to attack with greater range then the player
Enemies will respawn when the player dies
When one enemy counterpart dies the other time zone version of them dies and the one attacked will evaporate
Boss Mechanics:
There are two bosses with a shared health bar where one is a dragon which will shoot fire balls at different platforms and the other a machine with tentacles appearing from portals randomly swinging around platforms.
Another feature is these two worlds are somewhat separated and so there two maps are misaligned making it so that the player has to be extra careful because if they fall then the player has to go back to the beginning of the map, however if you die to this boss then the bosses health wont reset because from peer reviews this has shown to be very difficult for players to complete unless done so.
Dragon:
The dragon will shoot at random platforms to hopefully hit the player
The dragon has a heat shield which every shot will decrees the size of it so the player can hit it
When the player hits the dragon they move back to the platform
Lava around the map will rise and drop to hopefully hit the player while they are moving
Time Machine
The time machine will swing tentacles around the map to try and catch the player out to make them rewind back to the start
Around the map there are lasers so it forces the player to take their time
Around the machine are lasers and so just above the vent which you have to hit is a wooden block for the player to grapple and so they will have to grapple to hit the machien
World Mechanics:
Working checkpoints for the player
Story polls for the player to learn the story
Working lifts for the player
working cube drops for the player to use for puzzle solutions
buttons to open doors if an enemy/cube is placed onto them
buttons which are interactable when looked at
pressure plated levels which only activated when all enemies are dropped off the platform
Moving traps:
swinging spiked balls
Hydraulic presses
moving lava
In this world there are time travellers under the organisation the Time Authority (TA) and they sell themselves as historians and a luzury holiday company as the historian part is that they go through time collecting photos, items and other trinkets of the past which was lost in time to erosion and wars. They also take the public to different time periods so that they can experience what it is like to be living in a time period of their choice, but a dark secret about this company is that they go around killing other time travellers so that they are the only company which can make a profit off time travelling.
A mad scientist who thinks this company should be shut down has tried to claim a "time watch" the thing which you need to time travel but the only rule of this is you can not be moving as you need to make sure your in a safe space like colliding with another person and moving while time traveling could cause universe ending effects, but he could never claim one as he was a scientist at TA not an actual time traveller. You the player are an intern at this company and stupidly you were given a time watch and so the scientist plan was set. convince you to move using the time watch, breaking the TA, however you fused with a crusader and fusing the two timelines together ruining everyone else's time watch as they have now been connected to their alternate time variant but the scientist only got sent to the past.
The knight you took control of his life mission was to die to a dragon as he was sent there to protect the village being destroyed but now you can change this by killing the dragon which will save the time lines as the dragons life is connected to the Time Keeper which is a egg like machine keeping the time line correct but as it has folded in on itself the machine is now holding the timelines tighter meaning it is the only thing which is actually keeping it the way it is.

I very much enjoyed the mechanics inside of the game. The levels flowed well together and it did feel like you were following a lost knight's story. The game was entertaining and kept me hooked while playing. I liked the addition of the tutorial text to help the player understand the controls better and what they trigger. On the whole, it was very entertaining! :)

The movement was consistent and the puzzles were enjoyable as I wasn't spoon fed the answers. The tutorials were helpful as it reminded me how the game functioned and gave me an opportunity to practice using the mechanics, the gameplay overall was fun, challenging and rage inducing. The parrying felt inconsistent, as there were times that I felt I should have parried an enemy however the parry wouldn't register, the final boss felt a little bit unfair. Lore was confusing and made no sense, and the secrets didn't work correctly. Finally, the time travel, slow mode, and rewind mechanics were incredibly fun to play around with.

- Chrono Crusader is quite fun to play, despite some of its more rageful moments. Like the dragon, shooting 25 fire balls per go before you're able to hit him; or the moments after death watching all the progress you just did get rest. however, these parts make the game more
exciting. One thing I believe it could improve upon is the bugs, In particular after dying you can rewind time to go back to the moment before your death. A very useful bug, but it makes any challenge of dying nothing when I go straight back. I'm still going to use it though.
